Generation Four: Chapter 08

I am now in my 2nd trimester. It feels like I went to bed one night and woke up the next morning to a huge baby bump. The baby is very active and seems to be kicking all the time.

Work is going well. I recently gave preventative shots to two cats and treated a dog for Moth Mouth or something like that.

I reached level 6 of the veterinarian skill.

Then I had a dog come in with a bright red nose.

He also had raspy breathing and really sweet smelling breath. All are a clear indicator of Common Lava Nose.

Fortunately, I was able to treat him some topical spray.

Now that I am in my second trimester, I am finding being on my feet all day exhausting. Sometimes I have to take cat naps (pun intended) between patients.

Eliah has been very supportive. I often stay after work just talking to him. We have gotten to know each other and become good friends. He told me that he and his now ex-wife were originally vets in Brindleton Bay. But after the divorce he sold her his half of the practice and used the money to open up a clinic here in Hedford-on-Bagley. He also has a 15 year old daughter that lives most of the year with her mom.

“I miss her so much,” he told me. “She usually comes here to visit for the summer and over the holidays but the older she gets the less time she wants to spend with her parents.”

Now that I am halfway through the pregnancy, I decided to go in for an ultrasound. It was amazing seeing the baby on the screen. It made it seem much more real.

The doctor’s told me I am having a baby boy and I already have the perfect name picked out but am keeping that a secret for now.

A few days later, I invited all of the family out to the farm for Harvestfest.

We had a grand feast.

During the party my youngest siblings, Charles and Caroline aged into Young Adults.

For me the highlight of the party was showing mom the ultrasound photo of my baby boy. She was so excited about her newest grandson.

Lisa’s son Lukas is now a toddler.

During the party he got into the milk and syrup and made a huge mess.

Mom ended up cleaning the mess while Lisa put Lukas in a time out. I guess this is the type of thing I have to look forward to in the near future.

Aside from the mess everyone had a great time at the party.

I have started working on the nursery. Of course I had to make it animal themed.

Every morning I get up early to take care of the animals. My relationship with bees is so good they have started bringing me presents.

Though sometimes I am so focused on the animals I forget about my own needs. All it took was one swift kick from the baby and I ended up having a massive bladder failure.

My niece Amaya, recently brought her dog all the way from Del Sol Valley to be treated by me.

He had a case of Mouth Moths, Uncontrollable Drooling, and Stinky Fur which were tell-tail signs of Mild Repugnitis. That can fortunately be treated with some Parasite Killer Spray.

Then later I had a patient with a case of Super Repugnitis.

Which can only be treated with Tum Tum Readjustment Surgery. I admit I was nervous performing my very first surgery but it went well.

“You did a great job with your first surgery,” Eliah told me.

“Thanks,” I said. “I admit I was really worried something would go wrong.”

Eliah and I chatted for a bit more but I could tell he was nervous about something.

“Okay, just spit it out,” I said. “I can tell you are nervous about something. Are you firing me?”

“WHAT?! No! It has been great having you here. I just want to ask you something and I am worried it will make you uncomfortable or upset with me. You might find the question inappropriate given our work situation.”

“Well you can ask, and I will tell you if I find it inappropriate or not,” I said.

“My ex-wife broke my heart. I loved her deeply and she cheated on me with my best friend. I have no desire to form a romantic attachment ever again. I know it is none of my business but I know about the arrangement you had with Michael. I wondered if since the two of you are no longer woohoo partners if you would consider entering into that type of arrangement with me. After your baby is born of course and only if that is something you want.”

I admit that ever since I entered my second trimester I have been feeling very flirty. Woohoo actually sounded very appealing. I told Eliah that only was I very interested in becoming woohoo partners but I didn’t feel the need to wait until after the baby was born as long as he didn’t mind.

Eliah has a small apartment above the vet clinic. We headed straight upstairs to woohoo in the shower.

When I got home, Ainsley delivered some terrible news. Three of our family members passed away. The first was Anthony Visconti. His mother, Ambrosia, was my grandma Ada’s youngest sister which I guess makes him my mom’s first cousin. The other two deaths were my cousins Lucas and Andy Everett. They were part of my aunt Bonnie’s triplets. Their mom Natalie is Ansley’s mom.

“I really appreciate you letting me live with you while I was pregnant and needed a moment to myself without my mom and uncles around 24/7. But now with Uncle Luke and Uncle Andy gone I need to be with my mom again. I want us to spend whatever time she has left together. Will you be okay by yourself?”

I reassured Ainsley that I would be fine. I totally understand her wanting to be with her mom in these final days.

“Well Bentley, I guess it is just you, Dillon, the farm animals and I now,” I said as I scratched his chin.

No wheel spins in this chapter.
